One of the co-founders of the famous ice cream brand Ben & Jerry's has stated that parent company Unilever stopped the introduction for an innovative pro-Palestinian frozen dessert product.

The entrepreneur, that co-founded the company with his partner, disclosed how he plans to personally create this new flavor within a personal collection showcasing issues the company was prevented from speaking out about.

Longstanding Dispute Involving Creators and Corporate Owner

The recent development escalates the continuing conflict between the internationally recognized dessert company and Unilever, the UK-based consumer goods corporation which has owned the ice cream brand for over two decades.

Both founders maintain that Unilever along with their ice cream division Magnum unlawfully blocked Ben & Jerry's from "maintaining its activist principles".

The Fruit Sorbet becoming an Emblem of Solidarity

Mr. Cohen announced through an Instagram video how he's developing an innovative watermelon-based sorbet, asking for consumer ideas regarding the product's name plus additional components.

“I'm doing what they were prevented from doing,” Mr. Cohen declared in his kitchen. “I'm making a watermelon-based ice cream that calls for permanent peace in Palestine while demanding addressing the harm that was done there.”

This particular fruit has emerged as a symbol for support for the Palestinian people because of its coloration, which match the colors in the Palestinian flag – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Historical Social Engagement and Recent Changes

In 2021, the ice cream company ceased sales of their merchandise in territories occupied by Israel, resulting in the parent company transferring their Israel business to a local licensee, thereby permitting ongoing distribution within disputed territories.

This upcoming dessert series will be developed under Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the socially conscious dessert company that originally established several years back to support ex- political contender Senator Sanders with the flavor "Bernie's Back".

Leadership Shifts plus Future Intentions

Mr. Cohen stated that he will develop additional frozen dessert varieties that address concerns that Ben & Jerry's was silenced from speaking about openly due to Unilever.

This development follows partner Mr. Greenfield stepped down from the company in September, following many years of involvement, citing worries that the company's autonomy had been compromised following Unilever's decision to curb its social activism.

Previously, Ben Cohen remarked that “My partner has strong compassion and the ongoing dispute with our parent company was deeply distressing him."

"My heart leads me to keep working within the organization to advocate for corporate autonomy ensuring that it can fulfill the social mission, the principles that it was founded on while upholding for decades," he explained to media outlets.
