Followers Demand Arrest of Person Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Passionate fans of Ariana Grande are demanding that a person who breached a barrier and grabbed the actress during Thursday's Wicked: For Good premiere be arrested or deported from Singapore.
A viral clip reveals the person identified as Johnson Wen pushing past photographers and rushing toward Grande while the performers walked down a promenade surrounded by supporters.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo promptly guided the surprised star away from Mr Wen, who was observed being escorted out of the gathering by guards.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "free after being detained", though official papers showed that he was set to attend court on the next day. It is not clear if he was formally accused.
Record of Disruptions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Controversial Figure", has invaded a celebrity gathering. His Instagram feed includes recordings of him interrupting other star-studded functions, including jumping on stage at the artist's Sydney show in recently and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers concert in the same location last winter.
"Measures must be taken taken against him as this is clearly a criminal offence," commented an Instagram commenter, in a message to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his actions.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" another Instagram user wrote.
Followers Show Disapproval Over Grande's Safety
Many followers accused Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had spoken of suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a terrorist explosion at the end of her 2017 performance in Manchester, killing 22 people and harming numerous individuals.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" wrote one more response on Instagram.
A number of fans also questioned security officers at the Thursday event for not being vigilant enough; while others demanded social media platforms to ban Mr Wen's uploads.
Aftermath and Premiere Information
In videos circulating online, Grande looked surprised when she was grabbed by the individual. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted consoling her while Mr Wen was escorted away by security.
Grande has not issued a statement on the incident, and the premiere activities continued without further issues.
Hundreds of attendees had gathered in a sea of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good regional premiere in a Singapore shopping center, including some who had queued for as long as many hours before it began.
The motion picture, to be launched on 21 November, is the follow-up of a two-film interpretation of the popular theatrical show Wicked, which focuses on the surprising relationship between two contrasting witches.
The show itself is a derivative of the classic book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was decked out in a champagne pink glittering gown at the event while Erivo, who acts as the wicked witch, wore a black tube gown featuring roses.
They were accompanied by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the highest-grossing film of last year in the UK, and earned ten Oscar nominations, securing two for outstanding attire and production design.
