Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched operations throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a significant and ongoing assault targeting the nation by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone near the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any impact is uncertain and the American officials has not commented.

Missile Defenses Activated

In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - reported they have shot down incoming projectiles in their airspace.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the Middle East.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was targeting US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the strikes on the Islamic Republic carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.

That US-Israeli operation - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck areas linked to the the regime, with US President Donald Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the leadership.

Wider Impacts

In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israeli military reported it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates announced that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses dealt with the missiles with great effectiveness and destroyed a number of missiles," the statement continued.

The statement noted wreckage fell on a neighborhood in the capital, causing some material damage and fatalities.

The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
