'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith renews clash with Pep's side.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he remembers the dramatic closing stages of his team's epic comeback win against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. The encounter culminated with Galbraith temporarily wearing a spectator's eyewear following the pitch-side pile-on.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith cracked the upright with a speculative strike from 25 yards, and the defender immediately hammered in the loose ball before sprinting toward the home end to mark the goal, with supporters mobbing the players.

Stunning Reversal

This sealed an extraordinary turnaround given the Welsh side had been behind 2-0 during the final 45 minutes. In the delirium, there was some minor mishaps. Galbraith explained, "There was a supporter sort of calling out and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're humans, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

The victory booked a upcoming fixture at home against the Premier League champions on Wednesday, a team Galbraith came close against at the same stage of the FA Cup with the London side in February. Galbraith had an excellent perspective when his former team took the lead in remarkable manner, with the attacker's first-time shot from about long distance going in via the bar and the City goalkeeper. It seems unfair that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've credited him for taking the effort on from that far out," says Galbraith, who started in midfield before shifting to right flank after they changed formation. That meant getting to grips with the England international, with whom he traded tops, and the winger was among the Manchester squad who complimented the way Orient attacked the game.

Opponent's Class

"Fitness-wise they are very good but even the fundamentals and simple things, they can just perform consistently," the midfielder notes. "It feels like they complete every delivery and they are adept at manage and neutralize a game. You can feel you're all right and then suddenly they will just thread a ball past your midfield without you even seeing. You have to be switched on every second of the game. It demands a strong mentality and attention just to keep pace."

Welsh Transition

The club were keen on Galbraith in January and secured his signature to sign him in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He made a name as a fans' favourite across a couple of years at Orient and has swiftly replicated that in south Wales. At Orient he linked up again with Richie Wellens, who four years ago gave Galbraith his first extended run in first-team action on loan at a League One side from Manchester United. Then came a loan at lower division Salford, before he departed Manchester United.

Growth Journey

"I was likely a bit naive going into senior level. I think many athletes would say development squad matches is completely distinct. Sometimes it feels like the ball is moved without serious challenge. There's not many tackles or duels. Once you start playing first-team football you have to adapt rapidly."

National Team Success

He has shown that maturation for both domestically and internationally, performing well for Northern Ireland, who remain in contention for the international competition next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has been selected in the last several matches, including two matches encounters against the German national team. His former international manager, Galbraith's ex- international manager, paid him the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he manipulates the ball and his knack for a decisive through ball.

Early Days

This marks a remarkable path for the kid from the Queens Park estate in the Belfast suburb, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who grew up watching his parent, Stuart, also a midfielder, play for his father's team.

Old Trafford Memory

The player's single match for the Red Devils came in Central Asia in 2019, a continental tournament trip to the Kazakh capital, where they competed on an synthetic surface and the arena covering was closed owing to temperatures of -15C. "This represented a lengthy journey and it was cold out there," he says, grinning. "The days leading up, several youth players and I worked out jointly, so that aided our adjustment. Just to join the main group and earn some playing time at the end was unbelievable."

Departing Old Trafford

What was the challenge was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he transferred from aged 16? "The decision proved fairly simple, because I got to the stage where I understood I wouldn't break through at the top level. I'm very appreciative for the time I spent there but it got to the point where I believed I needed to go my own route, join a smaller club and play professional soccer. Now I'm steadily working my way back up."

Life in Swansea

It is mid-afternoon at the club's training ground but Galbraith has an appointment at the early evening: a road rules assessment, another step towards getting on the road. Until recently to the local area, the young professional was a constant rider in Swansea's so-called team minibus, a minibus driven by academy staff, the drivers, which ferries players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"My companions include a teammate, another squad member, the midfielder – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has started driving. It's nice to interact with the teammates but I'm hoping to be the subsequent individual to drive independently and behind the wheel. Franco is known for his humor; he's constantly causing mischief."

Public Engagement

While playing for Orient, Galbraith would travel alongside supporters on London's Central line after starting his journey at Brentwood. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
