The ambassador has been considered a possible political challenger to the president, though associates of the ambassador indicated they were uncertain he would consent if asked.

Talks and Global Situations

Yermak allegedly told the press that he was "heading to the battlefield" and was "prepared for any reprisals," though it was unclear how he might contribute to the military. He added in a written communication, "I consider myself an honest and decent individual."

Yermak led Ukraine's delegation over the past fortnight as Ukraine responded to a Moscow-friendly proposal released by the White House. It called for that the nation withdraw from Donetsk province and accept a broad pardon, and that the west remove restrictions imposed on Russia.

Negotiations paused this week during the American celebration, but are expected to restart shortly. A team from Ukraine led by Rustem Umerov, secretary of the country’s national security council, has set out for the U.S. capital, the president said.

Ukraine has presented a 19-point counter proposal, which has been provided to Russian authorities.
