Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot admitted that it's understandable for doubts to be raised about his position following another convincing loss against the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their 9th loss in twelve games, representing the team's worst streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received significant backing from above,” the coach stated.
“It would be nice to turn it around and secure a win of course but when you're coaching a team and underperforming then it is normal that people question you.”
He noted, “I accept my position. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Discussions with Club Management
When asked to provide details on his conversations with the club's leadership, Slot revealed:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me constantly of the day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “During our regular discussions I perceive the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them since this match yet so we'll see.”
Familiar Problems and Player Response
Slot lamented known shortcomings from his team in their European defeat, specifically wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones stated.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't have to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He continued, “It's tough because I play for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a phase of this nature with outcomes like these.”
Jones concluded, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And until it is gone, we’re always going to compete.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad back to where it needs to be, prove once more what this club is about and why it's known as the greatest side in the planet.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
