A confidential source has revealed the Afghan leak inquiry that British authorities abandoned confidential devices permitting Afghanistan's rulers to locate Afghans that had served with international military.

Data Breach Endangers Numerous in Danger

The source, identified as Person A, explained that individuals impacted by the information breach were advised to relocate and switch their mobile numbers to protect themselves from the ruling authorities.

Lawmakers are looking into the UK government's management of a catastrophic breach of private information involving nearly 19,000 individuals who had asked to relocate to the United Kingdom to avoid the Taliban.

The Information Breach Happened

An electronic document with confidential details, comprising names, contact details and occasionally household data, was accidentally leaked by a staff member working at UK special forces headquarters in last year.

The leak was discovered only in August 2023, when the names of nine people who had requested to move to the UK were posted on Facebook.

Militant Technology

Many believe there's a misunderstanding that militant forces are without comparable resources that we have,” she told lawmakers.

“We left it all behind in Afghanistan; they possess it. Should they obtain mobile details, they are able to track you down to within metres. That's precisely what the unit accomplished.”

Under inquiry about whether the Taliban had access to necessary encryption, the source stated: “They have complete capability.”

Aftermath of the Security Lapse

Initial findings submitted to the committee estimated that approximately fifty family members and associates of individuals impacted by the breach had been executed.

A legal restriction concerning the incident was enacted in late 2023 and prevented any information about it from public disclosure until recently.

Safety Measures

Due to legal constraints, Person A and the non-governmental organization she collaborated with told individuals at risk they were supporting that they had “apprehensions that somebody's phone had been compromised”.

“We advised that they relocate if they could and switched their contact details. Those were the crucial data that, should militant forces acquired such data, would lead to identification and capture,” she said.

Challenged Assessments

The whistleblower disputed that government assessment conducted by a former official had been incorrect to state that the possession of the dataset by militant forces was “minimally impact present danger”.

“The crucial point is that affected people are not standing up to militant forces; they are in hiding. The primary issue involves past work history.”

She detailed horrific abuse endured by affected individuals, involving electric shock torture, waterboarding, and severe beatings.

“Instances include young kids who have had bones crushed to force households to reveal locations,” the whistleblower revealed.
