The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Shares He Has a Plan for How The Apple TV+ Show Will End... Currently.

Vince Gilligan could not have predicted that the Apple TV+ show would turn into a massive hit. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he remarks. “It was unexpected the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

With the first season of the popular sci-fi show wrapping up—and the next chapter officially in the works—Gilligan and his team reflected on the viewer reception and whether it will shape the narrative path of Pluribus.

About the Overwhelming Audience Reaction

It would be easy to get sidetracked by the widespread acclaim and audience predictions about Pluribus. He is doing his best to steer clear of all that.

“It feels like constantly eating hot fudge sundaes and being in a state of bliss,” he describes. “It's wonderful, but I hear about it through word of mouth, and that's by design. Never in my life searched for my own name online, nor do I ever plan to. Not because I don't care. It's a bottomless pit I know I would get lost in and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from the hardware store and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Despite trying to stay away, there’s no escaping the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to accept it graciously and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“It is not our goal to adjust our writing,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not influenced by online forums.”

“We prefer to keep our noses to the grindstone,” he chimes in.

A Pressing Query: Does the creator Know the Finale of Pluribus?

So if Gilligan and his team aren’t being guided by public opinion, does that mean they have already decided how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? The answer is yes… sort of.

“We have some potential directions about where the show might end up,” Gilligan says. “but we are always ready to throw out a solid concept for a better idea. This approach has served us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we find a more perfect path and I imagine we will be doing that.”

Alternatively, if all else fails, director and writer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to use as a backup.

“My recurring proposal is that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and the characters are inside it,” he says humorously, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Then again, why not reference the iconic TV endings?

“My dream is Carol to open her eyes beside Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV.
