Former President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that he has asked the loved ones of a National Guard member killed last week to come to the presidential home.

He noted that he conversed with her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.

Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a shooting on Wednesday in the nation's capital.

Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in grave state.

The president said he’s talked about a White House visit for the parents of both soldiers of the West Virginia National Guard.

“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a hard experience, arrive at the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” the president addressed journalists. “And in the same way with him, whether he recovers or not.”

Public Reaction

Community members assembled over the weekend at a local school in the state to honor Sarah.

Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the military unit as part of Trump’s federal initiative to support public safety in the capital.

Paying Tribute to Beckstrom

“Sarah was the type of pupil that teachers wished for. She carried herself with calm resilience, a warm expression and a positive energy that inspired those around her,” the principal, the head of Beckstrom’s alma mater, told the Associated Press. “She was caring, caring and always ready to help others.”

Service plans for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.

Law enforcement have charged a 29-year-old suspect with a charge of first-degree murder and two counts of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.

The event led the government to halt refugee claims and halt issuing visas to possessors of travel documents.
