This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.
Although not quite at the identical stature as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the county's top official had her own presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a second term in office.
“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life free from concern.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, donated by a local firefighter, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “six seven” – originating from a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so widespread that a major dictionary recently declared “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It embodies the character of Miami: joyful, diverse, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Every time, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
