While Michel Illouz slowly made his way through the throngs beneath the Mediterranean pines and tropical trees at the burial ground in Ra'anana, a urban center located approximately 20 kilometers north of Tel Aviv, he showed appreciation to as many attendees as possible.
Earlier he provided an invitation to the nation's citizens to join his family in grieving his young adult son, Guy, whose physical form had been repatriated from Gaza on Monday.
Substantial Gathering
Thousands responded the call. They lined the streets, accompanied the funeral vehicle carrying his body, and arrived at the cemetery in such significant numbers that the original plan to stage the ceremony indoors had to be canceled.
Instead, the ceremony was conducted in the open air, accompanied by the melody of avian melodies.
Significant Milestone
This signified the first funeral since the remaining score of prisoners came back from Gaza, together with multiple remains. Additional 21 of the fallen captives are still unaccounted for, but at minimum this family now had a particular spot to mourn and honor their son, per companions.
Tragic Story
Guy Illouz, a performer and audio engineer, had been struck from behind at the Nova concert event during the Hamas offensive on October 7, 2023. Prior to the incident, he had reached out to his father from a hiding place to express his love; to bid farewell. He was captured, and based on those held with him, he later died from his trauma due to medical neglect.
Relative's Viewpoint
A family friend of the Illouz relatives, Michelle, aged 50, mentioned that it had been vitally significant to them that people attended today. The Illouz household, encompassing Guy's female relatives and male sibling, had observed shiva, the seven-day period of bereavement, after discovering of his passing in December of the previous year. But now that Guy was finally back with them, they desired "supportive individuals again."

He turned to his son. "My Guy-shuk," he expressed, using a affectionate nickname, "it's difficult for me to conceive the time to come without you. They snatched you from me – they ended your life – they kidnapped me and stole my identity and murdered my soul and feelings."
"I feel empty inside since that pointless violence by those vicious attackers when they apprehended you and commanded you to turn around, and then just discharged two unnecessary shots into your posterior."

"Thus I stood this morning, driving to Abu Kabir identification center to identify you and say goodbye. They removed the white sheet, and the primary view I saw was that smile of yours, that optimism, that serenity and nobility that so exemplified you."

Familial Courage
During the early part of the ceremony, Illouz had dedicated all his efforts on consoling his younger children. He gently touched the locks of his girls, held his son, demonstrated love and maintained composure for them. But then his emotions surfaced.

"I'll miss so much journeying together through this land, sensing your presence, listening to your compositions, resting on elevated terrain and igniting the flame to create the drink the way only you understood – 'Dad, do you see the coffee bubbles?
